Dental Laser
CBD Dental Care is proud to be able to offer our patients treatments with the new Picasso Dental Laser. The dental Laser is used to perform minor surgical procedures that will heal more quickly and with less discomfort than conventional treatments. After the procedure is completed with a dental Laser the area is left sterilised and sealed with minimal or no bleeding.
Gum Recontouring and Gum Lifts
When performing cosmetic procedures it is often necessary to correct the level of the gums on the front teeth before veneers or crowns are made. Gum recontouring may be desirable in the following situations.
- The gum may be at a different height for one tooth compared with another. This would lead to one of the teeth looking either shorter or longer.
- The gum may be overgrown making all the teeth appear short.
- When a patient has a high smile line or a ‘gummy’ smile.
Depending on how much gum tissue needs to be recontoured, a dental laser is often able to achieve the desired results quickly and without stiches and with very little post op discomfort. Healing is usually effected in about 1-2 weeks.
Gingivectomies
If a tooth fractures below the gum line or there is decay that goes beneath the gum level, this can be very difficult to place a filling due to bleeding of the gums. This can lead to a poor restorative margin and a higher chance of getting more decay in this region. A dental laser can be used to gently remove some of the gum and allow the filling to be placed without bleeding. There is rarely and post operative pain associated with a procedure like this.
Frenectomies
Many people’s lips are held too tightly by a frenum (a ligament that attaches the soft tissue of the lip to the bone). If this attachment is too high it can lead to gum recession (mostly between the lower front teeth). Using conventional surgery the release of the frenum can be quite traumatic with bleeding and the need for stitches. With the use of a dental laser this procedure can be performed with little or no bleeding, no sutures and surprisingly little discomfort. You would be able to go back to work immediately after the procedure.
If you would like any more information about dental lasers please feel free to contact the practice and one of our dentists will get back to you.

Intra Oral Camera
The Intra Oral Camera allows us to give you a guided tour of your mouth. The camera is mounted in a small tube which is easily moved around your mouth while you watch live on the screen, allowing you to see your teeth up close and view the problem areas being explained by our dentists.
Low Dose, Digital X-Rays
We can now take a simple x-ray and you can view the result instantly on a computer screen from where you sit in the dental chair. This allows us to quickly view x-rays and show you any problem areas. These new digital x-rays also produce 90% less radiation than traditional film x-rays.
