Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth usually emerge without any problems. When they don’t however, wisdom teeth can cause a range of problems which are both painful and detrimental to your other teeth. The most common complication occurs when wisdom teeth become impacted, growing into the neighbour tooth. This impedes the wisdom tooth’s rise and places pressure on the rest of the teeth, crowding the mouth. It can be very painful. The other common problem occurs when wisdom teeth only partially emerge, leaving some of the tooth covered by a flap of your gum. This flap becomes very prone to painful and recurrent infections.

As wisdom teeth emerge and problems arise it is best to remove the problem wisdom teeth to relieve pain and discomfort while also stopping unwanted crowding of the teeth. The removal of wisdom teeth does not affect your bite and is a straight forward procedure. The wisdom teeth can be removed under a local anesthetic here in our dental practice one at a time or under general anesthetic in a hospital where all four wisdom teeth are removed at once.
